Director's Notes
"This
is a remarkable thing about democracy
That we are notified
by mail to come down to this place and decide on the guilt
or innocence of a man we have never heard of before. We have
nothing to gain or lose by our verdict. This is one of the
reasons we are strong." [Juror 11]
"Twelve Angry
Men" is a fascinating and brilliant piece of writing
that brings 12 different characters to our notice. Set the
task of deciding the fate of a nineteen-year-old man, we are
witness, and silent jury, to their prejudices, weaknesses
and emotional interaction that is at times as comic as it
is tragic.
As always the Front
Room cast bring immeasurable brilliance to the play in their
own inimitable ways. I give my thanks to cast members old
and new with whom it has been a pleasure to work.
American prosecutor
Christopher Darden states:
"The law is
designed to allow people to bring into the jury room their
own life experience. Will people bring in their own prejudices?
It's unavoidable and it's expected."
Hence the drama
of "Twelve Angry Men" - as compelling and thought
provoking as theatre can dare to be.
