A message from our patron: Alan Meale MP

2004 marks the 20th anniversary of the 84/85 miners strike, an event of major significance for both those directly involved and others in the Labour and Trade Union movement. History recalls that all mining communities were affected, none more than the Nottinghamshire miners. Many of who were divided whether to strike or not, with families split and communities separated. To say the least the strike was an important event that shouldn’t ever be forgotten. During 2004 there will be many events organised around the country. The production of Close the Coalhouse Door depicts the hardship and efforts of a community in turmoil, mining communities culture and their citizen’s efforts to overcome their difficulties during the yearlong dispute. Not to be missed this excellent production is part of the 20 years on commemorations.
